In honor of Tina Shah, The Shah Educational Awareness Fund was established for the following purposes:
to alert and educate psychiatric, medical and nursing professionals who may be required to diagnose and treat patients during Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome episodes. The Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome Information Service will use the publications, educational brochures, conferences and other methods for increasing awareness and ensuring that patients with NMS are recognized and treated efficiently and effectively;
to assist and inform patients and family members regarding NMS, its presentation, treatment, and complications for future medical treatment. NMSIS will also work to make patient advocacy groups aware of this disorder;
to work towards a goal of having the diagnosis and treatment of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome made a part of the medical curricula and included in credentialing and certifying examinations of professional groups; and
to further the cause of increasing and dissemination new knowledge about NMS deemed appropriate by Board of Directors of MHAUS.
